My Approach
I understand that the best counselling work happens in a safe and non-judgmental space. Confidentiality and trust-building are of utmost importance to me so that clients feel heard and understood. My teaching background provides me with knowledge of educational demands and developmental stages as children transition into adulthood. It has also highlighted the importance of individual learning styles and preferred methods of communication, which directly transfer to the counselling context. I work hard to find the best form of communication for each client I see and utilize different methods (art, sand tray, writing/journaling, games, etc.) that can help clients feel more comfortable communicating.

I believe in providing evidence-based treatment, which means that the treatment has been scientifically evaluated and shown to provide beneficial outcomes. I always operate from a client-centered and strengths-based approach to therapy, and find it very important to meet a client where they are at. Using my clinical judgment and experience, I will also customize psychotherapeutic interventions depending on client concerns, personality, and goals. Some of those interventions may include:

-
Cognitive behavioural Therapy (CBT)
-
Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS)
-
Emotion-focused Therapy (EFT)
-
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
-
Interpersonal Therapy
-
Narrative Therapy
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-
Mindfulness-based techniques.
